Comment
The etymon is corrupt in the Ps.-Zonaras: the original from was βαιόν "little", and the copyist mistakenly took that for a participle and invented an infinitive βαίειν. Lentz's formulation is taken from the Etym. Magnum. This is a descriptive derivational etymology referring to a characteristic feature of the lemma "child": size. It implies one formal manipulation, a change of voiced [b] to voiceless [p]
