Derivational etymology. The etymon ἐρύκω is missing in Orion's main manuscript. The complete chain is ἐρύκω → *ἔρυκος → ἕρκος. The fence is what encloses and protects. The consonantal structure of the etymon is kept in the lemma, and the only formal change is the loss of /u/. The etymology is reversible (see ἐρύκω / ἕρκος)
