Daiō means "to burn", daïs "battle", and by change of /a/ into /ē/, dēis, and by addition of r/, dēris "fight"

Comment

Derivational etymology implying several formal changes. The lemma and the etymon are synonyms. This etymology in Orion comes from Herodian, although his name is not mentioned. It is most of the time found under a shorter form deriving directly δῆρις from δαίω, which is the etymon of δάις in the original etymology
