πρὸς γῆν νιφετὸς δ’ ἵεταί πως ἐκ νέφους

Translation (En)

Toward the earth the snow (niphetos) is thrown (hietai) from the cloud (ek nephous)

Comment

Compositional etymology. The second member of the compound is identified as the verbal adjective of ἵημι. A change of the first vowel is required, *νεφ-ετος → νιφετός. The fact that compounds with verbal adjective as their second member are not oxytone is not taken into account.
