Quotation

Κυνίζω· παρὰ τὸ κινῶ, κινΐζω καὶ κυνίζω· τὸ δὲ παρὰ τὸ κίω, τὸ δὲ παρὰ τὸ ἴω, τὸ πορεύομαι.

Translation (En)

Kunizō "to live like a Cynic": from kinô "to move", *kinizō and kunizō. And the latter (kineō) comes from kiō "to go", and the latter comes from * "to go"

Comment

Derivational etymology from a synonym: the starting point is a non existing thematic present. It implies the adjunction of a consonant at the beginning of the word. This etymology may be older and go back to Herodian, as suggested by the etymology of κίων (see κίων / εἶμι).
