Ὀπύειν. ὁμιλεῖν, συνουσιάζειν. παρὰ τὸ εἰς ὄπα ἐλθεῖν. ἢ κατὰ μετάθεσιν τοῦ μ εἰς π, ὁμύειν, ὁμοῦ συνιέναι.

Opuein "to marry". To frequent, from "to come" (elthein) "to the sight" (eis opa). Or by change of /m/ to /p/, "to have intercourse together" (homou sunienai)

Comment

Compositional etymology requiring a formal change. The second member of the compound is assumed to be εἶμι as in the competing etymology, while the first member is different and assumed to be ὁμοῦ "together". This etymology refers to the consummation of marriage
