Ἰτέα: Διὰ τοῦ ι· παρὰ γὰρ τὸ ἰέναι ἐστίν· καὶ γὰρ ταχέως αὔξεται·
Translation (En)
Itea "willow". Spelled with I, for it comes from ienai "to go", and as a matter of fact it grows quickly

Comment
Derivational etymology. The complete etymology may have been ἰέναι → ἰτός → ἰτέα, and other sources provide ἰτός "walkable" as the etymon. However, the etymon ἰτός is better from a formal point of view, but not from a semantic point of view (for ἰτός is passive). The name of several vegetal was derived from a motion verb referring to their growth (see ἄνθος / ἄνω + θέω, ἄνηθον / ἄνω + θέω)
