Quotation

καὶ πάλιν παρὰ τὸ δάω τὸ σημαῖνον τὸ γινώσκω γίνεται δαήρ δαέρος, καὶ πάλιν παρὰ τὸ αἴθω τὸ σημαῖνον τὸ καίω γίνεται αἰθήρ αἰθέρος, οἱονεὶ ὁ καυστικός, καὶ πάλιν παρὰ τὸ ἄω τὸ σημαῖνον τὸ πνέω γίνεται ἀήρ ἀέρος·

Translation (En)

And again from daō meaning "to learn" comes daēr, daeros "brother-in-law", and again from aithō meaning "to burn" comes aithēr, aitheros "ether", literally "the burning one", and again from meaning "to breathe" comes aēr, aeros "air"

Comment

Derivational etymology, relying on several parallel derivations. The brother-in-law is the one whom the bride meets when she comes into her husband's house (passive meaning, the δαήρ is met), or the one who meets the bride on this occasion (active meaning).
