Khasma "yawning chasm": from *khō "to make room", from which is derived khazō "to give way", future khasō, kekhasmai, khasma.

Χάσμα belongs with χάσκω "to gape", χανδόν "greedily". PIE *ghen-, cognate with ONorse gan "opening of the mouth, throat, cry", gana "to gape" (Beekes, EDG)
