Quotation
Mῶμος· παρὰ τὸ μῶ, οὗ ὁ μέλλων μώσω· δηλοῖ δὲ τὸ ζητῶ. μῶμος οὖν ὁ ἀεὶ ἐπιζητῶν καὶ μηδὲν τῶν ἄλλων ἱκανὸν εἶναι νομίζων, ἀλλ’ ἐνδεῖν τοῦ κρείττονος, ἀεὶ πᾶν ὁτιοῦν λέγων καὶ διασύρων.
Translation (En)
Mōmos "reproach": from *mō, the future of which is *mōsō; it means "to seek". Thus mōmos is the one that is always searching and thinks that nothing is adequate in others, but that better is needed, always tearing everything to pieces with his words, whatever it is.
Other translation(s)
Mōmos « reproche » : de *mō, dont le futur est *mōsō ; cela signifie « chercher ». Mōmos est donc celui qui cherche toujours et qui pense que rien ne convient chez les autres, mais qu'on a besoin de mieux, mettant toujours en pièces absolument tout quel qu’il soit par la parole.

Comment
Derivational etymology, in which the lemma misunderstood metaphorically: the one who blames seeks the defects in others. The noun is derived from the future of the verb, inflected here as *μόω (like δηλόω) instead of *μάω (like τιμάω).
