Laimos "throat": from "to seek for" (mân) very much (lian); or from laptō ("to drink greedily")which means "to be consumed by thirst"

Derivational etymology relying on the secondary meaning of λάπτω "to drink greedily". It implies several formal changes (insertion of [I], change of [p] into [m]). From the semantic point of view, it refers, like all the etymologies of λαιμός except one, to the capacity of the throat to swallow food or drink (in this case drink)
