Implicit compositional etymology parsing the word as *ἀ-κορίς "without satiety", and implying a syncope of the [o]. The etymology hints at the devastation produced by locusts. Mauropus provides here two competing etymologies, ἀ- + κόρος and in the following line the usual one deriving ἀκρίς from ἄκρος.
