Translation (En)
Pēra "leathern pouch": clearly a *phera "carrying", as it were. Or from parērtēsthai "to hang alongside". Or, with change of the [t] into [p], a *tēra, as it were, from tēreîn "to guard".

Descriptive etymology referring to the position of the bag when carried on the shoulder. It betrays a complete insensitivity to morphological segmentation, since what is kept from the alleged etymon παρηρτήσθαι is in fact the preverb παρ(α)- and the initial vowel of the stem, η-. The two are assumed to undergo a metathesis παρη > πηρα, which is not explicit.
