Derivational etymology deriving λυγρός from ὑγρός, in a context in which something liquid was a cause of suffering (the context is probably the λευγαλέῳ θανάτω of Il. 21.281, which was erroneously understood by some as meaning "liquid death", referring to drowning, see λευγαλέος / λοιγός). It implies a formal manipulation, the adjunction of [l]. Unless it is in fact an incomplete version of the compositional etymology λίαν + ὑγρός.
