Quotation

ὀρθὸν οὖν καὶ κατ’ αὐτὸν ἀποδιδόναι αὐτῇ τὸ αὐτενέργητον ὡς ὑφ’ ἑαυτῆς ἐγειρομένη. ἐνέργεια δε τις ἡ ἔγερσις

Translation (En)

So it is correct to attribute the name autenergēton, as it is awaked by itself, and awaking (egersis) is a sort of energy (energeia)

Other translation(s)

Modern Greek: Είναι σωστό λοιπόν να αποδίδεται σε αυτήν η ονομασία αὐτενέργητος, εφόσον εγείρεται από μόνη της: η έγερση είναι ένα είδος ενέργειας

Modern etymology

Abstract noun derived from ἐνεργής "active"

Persistence in Modern Greek

“Ενέργεια” is still used in Modern Greek to denote: 1. ‘Action taken for a result’, 2. ‘the natural ability of anything to produce work’, 3. ‘action in general’ (Triandafyllidis, Dictionary of Modern Greek)
