Blasphēmos "evil-speaking": from blabē "damage" and phēmē "utterance" comes blasphēmos, the one who says hurting words; or the one who throws words at someone, that is, the insulting one

The word is parsed as a compound of two nouns, as the one who utters words in order to hurt. The first element βλάβη is formally closer to βλάσφημος than in the other etymology βλάσφημος / βάλλω + φήμη and only one change is required, the insertion of [s]
